Prohibited Items

Due to health concerns, upholstered furniture is strictly prohibited in South Hall and Donley Hall. Residents of Reuss Hall and East Hall must seek permission for upholstered furniture prior to arrival. This includes, but is not limited to: mattresses, couches, love seats, futons, chairs, ottomans, and flip-style seats.

The following is a non-exclusive list of prohibited items:

  • Additional refrigerators, dishwashers, heaters or air conditioners (mini fridges allowed in Reuss and East up to 4.3 cubic feet)
  • Appliances with an exposed heating element unless with an automatic shutoff (i.e. traditional coffee pots, George Forman-style grills, cook tops, hot plates, mug warmers)
  • Candles/Candle Warmers/Wax Melters
  • Electric Blankets
  • Extension cords – unless it is a power strip
  • Fireworks
  • Flammable or Hazardous Materials
  • Fog machines
  • Grills
  • Halogen lamps
  • Hover boards
  • Lava Lamps
  • Live Christmas Trees
  • Non-LED Decorative Lights
  • Neon signs
  • Personal Lofts
  • Pressure cookers/rice cookers
  • Space heaters
  • Sun lamps
  • Waterbeds
  • Weapons
  • Other items which are deemed “dangerous” by the Office of University Housing


Any prohibited item(s) found in residents’ apartment will be confiscated. The resident(s) will have to go to the Information Desk to schedule an appointment with the RHC. A judicial sanction may be given to the resident.
